NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Fourteen years ago I met Angela (standing on the left) before we had graduated high school. We were visiting Smith as prospective students, having been accepted into the class of 1998 just weeks earlier. We hit it off spectacularly, bonding over both being midwesterners. We wrote in with our house request, and mentioned that we would like to be roommates. When we were moving in together in August, we met Kate (standing in the middle). Ten years ago, dressed in all white, the three of us cheered on the alumnae marching by us at the Ivy Day parade before graduation.

Now, still friends, we are the ones being cheered on.
