Rookie Mistake
The other day I had a patient who progressed very fast, and with whom I had to start pushing before her water broke (she was pretty uncomfortable from the pressure).
Her husband and I got her into position for pushing, and I sat down in front of her on the bed to track her progress. She took a deep breath in, and pushed down.
Just as she did that, her water broke.
Not a little trickle, but a HUGE pop, with the amniotic water bursting out of her.
And all over me.
Her husband and I burst out laughing. My patient was a little freaked out, but after seeing what had happened laughed too. And then I changed my scrubs.
I giggled for the rest of the day. And will not make that mistake again.
